Longevity and N utrition : Part 1 We all want to live long and remain young . We want to enjoy our golden years with maximum vitality and minimum ailments . Making positive changes in our lifestyle and daily habits can help eliminate the effects of imbalances and improve our current health and increase our chances for a longer and better quality of life . Signs of aging begin to manifest in our forties and fifties, but no matter what age we are , we can start taking a holistic approach to wellness and health and stop or even reverse the aging process to some extent . Two main causes of aging 1. Free radical damage Today's environmental pollution, toxins in our food and water, processed refined foods all contribute to free radical damage that in turn contributes significantly to damage caused in the body and hence the aging process . Antioxidants prevent free radical damage . Research suggests that your body s rate of oxidation and degeneration begins to outpace repair in late twenties , but that can be stretched to much later in life by consuming anti oxidant rich foods , herbs and supplements, exercising and generally leading a healthy lifestyle . 2. Inflammation is another factor which is now significantly related to all lifestyle diseases, degeneration and hence aging . Research suggests that anti oxidants and ( healthy lifestyle ) also encourage body to pick up its anti inflammatory activities . Inflammation and free radical damage is linked to unpleasant aspects of aging ; wrinkles , cancer, heart disease , diabetes, gut disorders , chronic fatigue , memory loss, cognition issues including Alzheimer s and dementia . So how do we ensure to keep the above two factors minimal in our lives to give us an optimal level of health.
